Minty Madness

A nice simple card from about a decade ago, made using digi-papers from a Funky Hand download called 'Minty Madness'. (Sadly, Funky Hand products are no longer available.) The paper is layered onto black, and then mounted on pink Bazzill cardstock. The sentiments are computer-generated using a font from a Lisa Bearnson scrapbooking CD-rom, and set on black cardstock. Apart from brads and gems, the main decoration is fabric flowers, satin ribbon bows and a fabric-covered button from an old jacket in the centre.

The Hiss Family

This simple card was made back in 2008 for a friend who lived in Florida, and was at that time being plagued with a family of black racer snakes nesting under her house (non-venomous, but nerve-wracking all the same, if you feel about snakes the way I do about spiders!! Yuck!). She managed to get rid of them by using a product available in them there parts called 'Snake Away'. The unfolding story on her blog was hilarious, so I thought the departure of the snakes warranted a card.
I used a flamingo stamp to create the background (Florida's state bird), a Cuttlekids snake double die-cut and the 'Miss You' sentiment is from the 'Now That's Funky' CD from - you guessed it! - Funky Hand (no longer in business, sadly). And, of course, the ever-present doodling and inked edges! The drops under his eye are meant to be tears, lol.. made with Glossy Accents.

Green Butterfly

From 2008, this was an entry for a sketch challenge at 2Sketches4You. This one uses three different colour-co-ordinated digi-papers from the 'It's Funky Too' CD-Rom from the now out of business Funky Hand, embellished with various stamps, inks, chalks and an embossing folder here or there!

Green Thank You card

2008 vintage, this one uses HOTP (Hot Off The Press) flourish stamps, and digi-papers from Funky Hand's 'It's Funky Too' CD-Rom, sadly no longer available. Wired ribbon, Prima flowers, fabric leaves, a few pearls and a stamped 'Thank You' complete the design.

Hedgehog Mama

This card was made back in 2008 for a friend who had just discovered a nest of baby hedgehogs in the tortoise house in her garden.  

This A5 (5" x 7") card uses digi-papers from the Shabby Saturday download from the former Funky Hand. I also used Rhonna Farrer's 'Elegant Flourishes' stamp set, some organza ribbon, some Making Memories square brads, some fancy-edged scissors with a scalloped edge to trim the square mat. The hedgehog is from Penny Black, and I have hidden her holly with a maple leaf brad! The wording is produced with individual alphabet stamps. Colouring used Koh-I-Noor pencils, with Zest-It blending solution and paper stumps.

Green Gerbera

Another one from way back when, circa 2009. A5 size card (5" x 7"), using papers printed from one of the many wonderful designs from Funky Hand CD-roms, inked around the edges. The central panel is embossed with Cuttlebug's Swiss Dots folder, also inked around the edges, raised on 3D pads, decorated with fabric gerberas, crochet lace and a button and bow.

Funky Hand Daisies

This was made over 10 years ago, when I was in the Funky Hand Design Team, showcasing their digital papers from a fab range of CD-roms. Sadly, they're no longer in business.

You can't really tell from the pic, but the top layer is apertured, with another aperture underneath, slightly smaller, so the focal point was kind of 'sunk' into the card, if that makes any sense. The central script panel is raised on pads in the middle. There may well be a name for this technique, but if there is, I don't know what it is! 

The papers (and paper ribbon) used are from the 'Now That's Funky' CD from Funky Hand. (By the way, I learned recently that the word 'funky' may translate as meaning something less than pleasant in the USA, but it doesn't have that meaning in the UK.)

Funky Hand Merry Christmas

This was made using digital papers from Funky Hand's 'Funky Little Christmas' CDs. I like the barely discernible snowflakes in the pattern. Not sure I would use this colour again, if I were remaking it now, and using Bazzill cardstock for the main greeting has made the heat embossing look bumpy because of the texture (which I love, normally, but it doesn't work here). The two punched snowflakes are made with a Kaleidopunch. The scalloped edging on the paper was achieved with fancy-edged scissors. Mini-brads complete the design. Possibly good for a male card?

Funky Christmas Candle

This one was made using Funky Hand digital papers, some gold peel-off borders, a red satin bow, panel of embossed gold card, a fussy-cut stamped, painted and glittered candle, some curled gold wire flourishes, glittered holly leaves and metal floral embellishments. Aaand breathe.

Sarah's Card

This 6" square card and the Funky Hand digital paper I used have been distressed around the edges (obvs), and faux stitched with a bit of doodling. The scallops on the oval were achieved with fancy-edged scissors and topped with an oval embossed with the Cuttlebug Swiss Dots folder. The strip across the middle and the large flower were also made with Funky Hand paper. Sarah's name is made using the Quickutz 'Eliza' alphabet, and the sentiment was computer-generated using the Cezanne font. Other embellishments include a paper rose, and leaves, Prima flower, rosebuds, waxed cord, crocheted lace, faux gems and a Martha Stewart punched butterfly with tiny faux pearls.

Spotty Scallops

Made a while ago for a challenge, using a variety of papers. I think they were a mix of Basic Grey and Funky Hand, and the border panel was created with a Cuttlebug Dotty Circles folder. The outside of the border was made with scalloped edge scissors, and the base layer of the focal panel was created with a Spellbinders nesting die. The edges of the papers were distressed and inked. Ribbons, brads and paper roses complete the design.

Sharron's 40th Birthday

Landscape A5 (5" x 7") card made for my old friend some years ago, using Funky Hand digital papers, including the flower, the numbers, the brackets and the circle sentiment. The only bits that aren't Funky Hand are the strip across the middle (Basic Grey), the little flowers, the brads, the Elegant Flourish stamps from Rhonna Farrer, the scalloped fancy-edge scissors, the faux stitching (stamped) and my little doodled flourishes on the brackets. And a partridge in a pear tree!

Funky Daisies

This was made when I was on the Funky Hand design team, before their sad demise, and I used one of their gorgeous digital papers here. I inked the edges of the panel and mounted it on glitter card. I fussy-cut some printed daisy die-cuts, glued gold micro beads in the centres, attached some stems 'borrowed' from some paper roses and mounted the daisies on 3D foam pads. The 'daisies' word was created with alphabet stamps in green to match the glitter card, deliberately wonky, and then stickled for sparkle.

Silver Wedding Anniversary

My dad was awarded an OBE for services to the RAF, and one of the privileges is that your children can be married in St Paul's Cathedral. He received his award after I was already married, but my sister had that chance and was married there. Unfortunately, the photos are taken to the side of the Cathedral, so you can't tell that's where you are! Ah, well. Great memories, nonetheless.

So.. this is 25 years on (36 this year), but using my favourite photo from the day, printed in greyscale. I've used a digital paper from Funky Hand, printed the text, and layered onto silver mirri card. I've used a vellum and silver thread wrap, silver metal filigree corner embellishments and rosebuds, also wrapped in fine silver wire with silver leaves. punched silver hearts complete the design.

I also made the one below, but decided it wasn't special enough.

Spotty Birthday

This was made some years ago, when I was on the Funky Hand design team, using their digital paper.. a lovely distressed dotty design, in this case. I love the raspberry and vanilla colouring. Makes me crave ice cream!

I doodled some faux stitching around the edges, used a Martha Stewart border punch on both sides of the panel, and mounted it on pink Bazzill cardstock. A bit of ric-rac, a rosebud, a button and a rub-on greeting completes the design.

Sweet Thing

Made for the Funky Hand design team when I was a member, using their digital papers, alphabet and flowers. Some doodling, faux stitching, brads and grosgrain ribbon tags complete the design.

21st Birthday

These two cards were made for my niece, Laura's, birthday. (Laura has Down's Syndrome.) One card was from me, and the other was commissioned by my mum.

I used digital papers from Funky Hand, and digistamps - Garden Critters - from what was then Pink Petticoat, but is now The Lovely Studio.

Happy Birthday, Gladys!

This is a card I made some years ago, but I am dedicating it to my Facebook group friend in Oz, Gladys, who celebrates her 80th birthday on 26th January. I wanted to make something especially, but time has run away with me this week. She has admired similar cards of mine in the past, so I hope she likes this one. Happy birthday, Gladys! x

Dotty Birthday

This card uses lovely spotty digital paper from Funky Hand's 'Funky Daze' CD-rom, and a Martha Stewart zig-zag border punch. I used the Cuttlebug Swiss Dots embossing folder on the white panel, some crocheted lace, couple of paper roses, an inked and glittered heart, and a waxed cord bow. 

Spotty Thistle

This card uses Funky Hand digital papers from one of their CD-roms. Sorry, I don't remember which one, but spotty papers are not hard to find. The purple and green torn papers are also Funky Hand. I have blended purple ink around the edges of the card, and used individual alphabet stamps for the words in purple ink, and doodled around the edges of the letters with a black fineliner for definition. The thistle is hand-drawn and coloured, with a touch of glitter on the head. Purple organza ribbon, a silver spiral clip, silver dragonfly and purple brads finish the design.
